TOMATO FEST THIS SATURDAY, JULY 30th

The 3rd Annual Tomato Fest will be held this Saturday at the Farmers' Market from 8am till 12:00 Noon.  We have lots of activities planned for the whole family on top of all the fresh produce, handmade, hand-crafted items.  St. Andrew's will be serving a community breakfast from 7am till 11am and lots of homemade baked goods will be available at the Market.  We also have coffee and water for sale to go along with your goodies. 

A special hand-crafted market basket, called "Too Hot to Market" made by Marsha Foster of Frog's Hair Baskets will be given away in the Market Raffle which will include an assortment of our Vendor goodies.  Tickets may be purchased at the Market Barn for $1.00 or 6 for $5.00.

Our kid friendly activities include making "Tomato Puppets" at the Kid's Corner, Parachute fun provided by the 4-H Club, Basketball Shoot provided by the National Guard and GOAT Cart Rides will be available from Karen's Caprine Farm Fashion for $2.00 and pictures with the goats for $3.00.

TOMATO PIE TOMATO SOUP

ENTER YOUR FAVORITE PIE AND/OR SOUP

with the main ingredient being TOMATOES

Entries must be presented in disposable containers. Each entry should have the recipe attached. You may enter both contests. Entries will not be returned.

Entries should be delivered to St. Andrew’s Fellowship Hall by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30.

Judging will take place at 9:15 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded for First, Second, and Third Place in each category.

Prizes will be awarded at the bandstand at 10:30 a.m. Entries will be on display following judging. Tasting will follow awarding of prizes at approximately 11:00 a.m.

MARKET HOURS FOR THIS SATURDAY 7/23

DUE TO THE EXTREME HEAT THIS WEEKEND, THE MARKET WILL BE OPEN AT 7:30AM AND WILL CLOSE AT 11:00AM.   WE WILL NOT HAVE MUSIC THIS WEEKEND AS WELL. 

THERE WILL BE LOTS OF FRESH PRODUCE, HOMEMADE SOAP, CRAFTS, CUT FLOWERS, DRY MIXES AND DELICIOUS BAKED GOODS, INCLUDING SOME FROM OUR BRAND NEW BAKER "FLOUR POWER". 

SO COME EARLY TO SHOP BEFORE IT GETS TOO HOT TO SHOP!

THIS WEEK'S IMPORTANT EVENTS FOR VENDORS

MBFP Webinar - Tonight - Farmers' Markets The Missouri Beginning Farmers Program will continue its monthly webinars in July with a presentation by Andy Larsen, "Farmers' Market Vendors: The Pro's and Con's". The webinar will be Monday July 11th from 7:00 to 8:30 pm with a PowerPoint presentation. There will be two additional opportunities to learn about how to be a great vendor at a farmers' market. On Monday July 18th we will hear from Eileen Nichols, market manager of the Webb City Farmers' Market. On Monday, July 25th we will hear from Caroline Todd, market manager of the Columbia Farmers' Market. Both Eileen and Caroline have been market managers for many years. They will discuss their market, what works and what doesn't work at a market as well as what are some key concepts they see in their most successful vendors at their markets.

TOMATO FEST-UPCOMING EVENT JULY 30TH

July 30th will be our 3rd Annual Tomato Fest at the Market.  We have all kinds of contests and events that involve the all american red, yellow, or green tomato.  The contests include:

A cooking contest for either a Tomato Pie or Tomato Soup.  (Rules to be posted by July 15th)

Count the tomatoes contest.  (How many tomatoes are in our container?)

Tomato contest for the smallest, largest, most unique and best decorated.

Jenifer Brooks from the Department of Agriculture will pay us a visit at the Market.  Come out and visit her booth and learn about the 10,000 garden challenge that you can be a part of.

The Market Raffle will include a beautiful market basket created by Marsha Foster of Frogs' Hair Baskets.  Tickets $1.00 or 6 for $5.00.  The basket will include several wares from our Vendors.
